Big Rebel Attack Last Night – It’s all the News | Andor – S01E06

I once said a thing, a very very foolish thing, I almost regret saying it, almost – except if you know jack about me you’ll know I try to be true to myself, never lie (I didn’t say I couldn’t bullshit tho right?!) and try to not say stuff I’ll either try to take back later or regret.

So what did I say?

“There can never be too much Star Wars”

Now I’m a bit sad about the old Wars, way back when Ep7 was announced I thought it might be good – people started crying at trailers and stuff like that and for a brief flickering moment it looked like it might be the second coming.

But…..of course, I never really factored in the sad part about the hollywood machine, how churning out content is just a mechanisim for toy sales, nice one Disney.

I give lots of stuff a chance, I quite “okayed” Boba Fett, even though it turned the character into a total middle-aged tosspot, and I joined the collective holy fuckery of the end of Mando Series 2, yeah, it’s not Splinter Luke but it’ll do.

Prize for the shittest Tie Pilots ABY5 goes to…..

So there’s a lot of grumbling online about……haha yeah, everything right? But Andor has been getting a kicking, it’s slow, pondering, boring, well ok, if you’re the type of person that can’t hang on a while.

I have a theory about this, but I’ll get to that.

So I watched EP6 and (imvho) it’s damn good. Some of the threads in the previous episodes came to fruition, Andor’s personality deepened with his decisions (pew) but then I hopped over to a site I like to read TV/Movie stuff on.

Three stars, not so good – what the what?

They’re just dead wrong. So what it it wasn’t Oscar/Bafta level shit, but for a TV series set in the Star Wars universe it wasn’t half bad. And yeah, maybe some of the characters were a bit generic but does everyone have to have a backstory? They were religious folk there for a celestial event that they worshipped, we used to do that with Comets not all that long ago.

The tension was ramped up, it was well done. The story mostly made sense – I’m guessing more so in the coming episodes, and the acting, action, twists, highs and lows all hit for me. Oh and the music? Amazing. So what’s the problem?

I watch old movies with my kids, stuff from the 80s and 90s and the main “complaint” is they’re slow. 20 mins in if shits not exploding and popping out of the screen they pick up their phones and start instagramming or looking up stock prices or something like that.

The subtle art of waiting and seeing is leaving us

I see a lot of online RAGE about TV/Movies these days and truth be told some of it is richly deserved, but when 1000s of people work hard to craft a piece of entertainment for your enjoyment give it a chance to breathe and look at it as a complete work.

Now I say that and I’m still trying to wade through the dreadful Lord of the Rings series (told you!) but I’m still hanging on in there and giving it the chance I give everything.

Andor might not be high art, it might be a show about a guy who didn’t start the Rebellion (but there is still time, but hopefully he didn’t!) and is therefore another minor character in the saga but it’s been lovingly crafted, it’s well executed and boy is it packing a punch.

So ignore ALL of the reviews and stay with it for at least these six episodes, it’s a slow burn but it’s well worth the watch, don’t be expecting “old school” Star Wars, in fact, that’s another thing I’d previously said, I’d be happy with a story in the world about no-one and nothing just some stuff going on, Andor isn’t quite that, but there’s not a lot of callback, so far, so just let it take you along and see where it goes.

You just never know……

“Yeah, it’s all the rage, it’s called Betamax”
